The Soft Launch Into Spring: A Guide To Decor Transitions

Stepping from winter into spring is like waking up from a long nap - you don't jump out of bed immediately; you want to stretch first. In home decor, this translates to a tactile and visual loosening of your space. While those chunky knit blankets and faux-fur pillows were lifesavers in December, they can start to feel a bit heavy when the first signs of March sun hit the windows.

The secret to a successful spring refresh isn't tossing everything out and starting over; it's about editing and swapping. Here is how to gently transition your space from winter hibernation mode to early spring freshness.

1. The Great De-Cluttering.Start by removing the "Winter Only" items. That heavy plaid throw, the darker, moodier candles, and the thick, textured rugs that feel like they're holding onto dust? Box them up. Once the heavy hitters are gone, you'll immediately notice the room feels lighter - even before you add a single new thing.

2. Shift the Texture, Linens Over Wool. Texture is the easiest way to change the temperature of a room. Trade your wool, velvet and fleece for breathable, natural fibers. Cotton, flax linen, and silk-blends allow air to circulate visually. Linen, especially, has an inherent lived-in quality that feels relaxed, breezy and effortlessly sophisticated. A simple linen table runner or a set of linen throw pillows can completely change the tactile experience of your living room.

3. Bring the Outside In.One of our favorite tips for every season! Spring is, by definition, the season of growth. If your home feels stagnant, it's likely missing a living element. You don't need a greenhouse, focus on sculptural greenery. Think eucalyptus stems in a tall vase, budding branches on the mantle, or trailing plants on a bookshelf.
 - Pro Tip: If you're opting for faux foliage, look for variations in color - early spring greens are often lighter and brighter than the deep forest greens of winter.

4. Reflect the Light, Mix Metals. As the days get longer, you want your home to catch that extra light. This is where mixed metals come in. Pair brushed gold, warm brass, and cool silver accents. Mixing metals prevents your decor from looking matchy-matchy or outdated. The reflective surfaces act like little mirrors, bouncing natural light around the room and making it feel brighter and larger.

Ready to Refresh? You don't have to do it all at once. start with one room - perhaps the living room or the entryway - and see how these simple swaps make your space feel.
